To prepare for future development work and to align with MiFILE, software updates regarding party types will be applied to the Trial Court System (TCS/WebTCS), effective Monday, June 30, 2025.
Updates include:
- Work with Party Types (PYY) screen will have a new Effective Date field for party types. Party type codes can be inactivated by JIS and reused with next effective date. See screen capture below.
- Court users will no longer have security to make changes on PYY. If a user attempts to use options: 2=Change, 4=Delete, F6=Create, an error message will display.
- When adding a new party to a case, the application will evaluate the file date and only display valid party types with an effective date equal to, or greater than, the file date.
- Reports: Warrant List, Case List, Probate Fiduciary Reports and Probate Guardian List. When F4 (Prompt) is used on the Party Type field, all party types will display including those with inactive dates, in the event a user needs to select inactive parties when generating the aforementioned reports.

If changes to Party Types are desired, please contact the JIS Support Center at https://support.courts.michigan.gov/portal. All requests will be evaluated and assessed.

Attention TCS/WebTCS Courts (Circuit, Juvenile, Probate)
JIS has revised the TCS Caseload Quick Reference Guides (QRG) to better align with the caseload instructions. The following updates were made:
- In the Circuit Court Quick Reference Guide:
- Juvenile case types, Adoption case types, Miscellaneous Family and Ancillary case types have all been incorporated into the Circuit QRG. These case types are all reported under Circuit Court for caseload purposes.
- Some terminology and helpful troubleshooting tips have been reworded to accommodate both Circuit and Juvenile.
- The Juvenile Quick Reference Guide has been retired.
- In the Probate Quick Reference Guide:
- Adoption case types, Miscellaneous Family and Ancillary case types were removed. These case types are reported under Circuit Court for caseload purposes.
Please be mindful that if a Probate clerk processes Adoptions and other Probate case types in the Probate office, they will need to have both QRG booklets available (Circuit and Probate) for reference depending on the case type being processed.
These two caseload quick reference guides can be found on the JIS Self-Service Portal/Knowledge Base. https://servicedesk.courts.michigan.gov
